Q: What is green power?

A: Green power is electricity that comes from renewable resources, such as hydro, solar, and wind.  They didn’t offer green power when we moved to Kentucky, so I made regular phone calls to my local utility for two years.  Now they do offer a green power option in our area!

Look on your latest electricity bill.  Many electricity suppliers will offer a  green power option, which supports renewable resources.  It will cost a little more ($5 a month in our area), but you’ll be showing God’s love for our global neighbors.

For example, in our area, nearly all electricity comes from coal.  Much of that coal is extracted from eastern Kentucky, where God’s mountains are being blown up to remove tiny seams of coal.  These already impoverished areas are left devastated.  Their air and water are polluted.  Their natural vistas are destroyed, as well as the wildlife that populated the areas.  And the economy is worse than ever.  The best way to help these people is to use less electricity.  Investing a few dollars a month in green energy seems such a small price to pay for helping God’s creation and helping my neighbors.
