Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Psalm 119:37 (New International Version) The forecast from the worlds most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, was not a crowd pleaser at our house. We are more than a little eager for spring to arrive, and we sincerely hope the famous rodent is wrong about another six weeks of winter weather. The image above (click for larger version) was created at Kentuckys Red River Gorge about ten years ago on a very cold and icy day. I had driven the one-hour trip down there and found little appealing to photograph until I spotted this very small frozen waterfall. The detail and the colors of the leaves appeared to be trapped, yet preserved beneath the ice. How are you doing with preserving what you have been entrusted with? How much of a struggle is it for you to turn your eyes away from worthless things? Unfortunately, I find it to be a challenge! See my works, how fine and excellent they are! All that I created, I created for you. Reflect on this, and do not corrupt or desolate my world; for if you do, there will be no one to repair it after you.” –Ecclesiastes Rabbah 7:13 (between 6th and 8th centuries) This image was created with a large format panoramic camera with color transparency film and was cropped tightly for this viewing. After creating this image, I fell on the way back to the vehicle and crushed the metal camera.
